We have been fortunate to find Hokkaido elm stock plants that have been very well grown and groomed with ½” dia. trunks with great root development. Everything about these plants is exciting for the shohin bonsai grower. Everyone will leave this class with a living gem that will provide years of enjoyment..
Ulmus parvifolia Hokkaido is the world’s smallest leafed elm normally growing only to a height of 18”. This cultivar of chinese elm is very slow growing and it is unusual and often very expensive to find plants of this size for sale. Hokkaido elm will do very well outdoors in bright shade all year around. They are rated for USDA Cold Hardness Zones: 5-9 which fits most areas of the US including Central Texas. We have been growing Hokkaido elm in our personal collection for several years with no problem. They like moist but not wet soil environments, again this fits very well with our southern summers. We are very excited about this class and we are anxious introduce you to this rare bonsai gem. The class includes, in addition to the tree, we are including an exibition grade ceramic pot, soil, wire and supplies, tips on styling and growing Hokkaido elm, discussion on the right soils to consider and seasonal care. Bring your own bonsai tools. Class limited to 10 students. Click here to register for this class. Then click on (ITEMS) to find Classes |
